Shamim Bangi and Edwin Ekiring were knocked out of the Mauritius International at the quarter final stage last week.

Bangi had a smooth ride in the initial stages of the tournament defeating Smiti Ramchurn 21-5, 21-6 in the first round. She later saw off Sandra Le Grange 21-12, 21-18 before in the second before falling to tournament fourth seed Hadia Hosny 21-16, 21-16 at the quarter final stage. “I gave my best, but a few decisions on court did not go according to plan,” said Bangi. “I thought my game plan would see me past the quarters but by the time I thought of switching it was too late,” she added.

Bangi is now ranked fifth on the continent and 177th in the world after her semi final performance at the Nigerian International. She will be hoping that her performance from Mauritius can get her in the top three on the continent.

Edwin Ekiring had a similar journey beating Vishal Sawaram 21-8, 21-14 in the first round. Though he wasn’t seeded Ekiring defeated tournament eighth seed Tobias Wadenka 21-9, 14-21, 21-16 in the second stage. Ekiring lost to Harsheel Dani 21-6, 21-16 in the quarters.

Ekiring is ranked 363 in the world and 12th on the African continent, Bangi on the other hand is Ranked 177th in the world and fifth on the continent.
