Uganda’s Group E opponents Togo will start their 2015 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers against Guinea but they want their opening fixture to be moved for fear of the Ebola virus.
The virus, believed to have originated from Sierra Leone and Liberia, has killed more than 300 in Guinea in recent weeks. “We are scared by the situation,” the Togo Football Federation (TFF) said in a statement to CAF.
The TFF said they fear their players and officials will be at risk of getting infected once they are made to play their qualifier in Guinea.
Guinea were drawn in a group with Ghana and Togo and were joined by Uganda who recently eliminated Mauritania 3-0 on aggregate. The qualifying competition will produce 15 finalists from seven pools who will join hosts Morocco for the finals early next year.
CAF are however yet to rule on the requests made by the Togo Football Federation which will have an effect on Uganda’s final group game against Guinea on November 19. The Uganda Cranes will open their qualifying campaign away to Ghana’s Black Stars on September 6 before hosting Togo in their second game four days later.
