Two hundred and thirteen points was enough for Buddo Class(1993-1998) to claim the first Philly Lutaaya Charity Golf tournament to be held at the par 71 Entebbe Course at Entebbe Club on Saturday.
The team made of national golfer Peter Ssenduala scored 75 nett, others on the team where Martin Ochaya with 68 nett, Irene Nakalembe and Deco Mutebi who had 81 and 70 nett respectively with the team bagging a total of 213 nett to claim the overall crown in the one day charity tournament.
The Philly Lutaaya Cares Charity Golf Tournament is aimed at raising funds for the construction Philly Lutaaya Vocational Center, Kanoni Gomba.
The vocational center is to create opportunities for the widows and youth to develop entrepreneurial skills and curb escalating unemployment rates. The tournament itself raised 20 million with State Minister for Internal Affairs Honorable James Baba, also contributing Sh0.5m to the noble cause.
Tezra Lutaaya Philly Lutaaya’s daughter the founder and Executive Director Philly Lutaaya Cares organization was grateful to the Golfing Fraternity and the sponsors for having supported the noble cause of setting up an organization in memory of her late father. She was accompanied by Abbey Kitts Lutaaya late Philly Lutaaya’s older brother.
“I want to sincerely thank Entebbe Golf Club and all the sponsors for their support. A big thank you to all of you” Lutaaya said in her speech to the golfers at the award ceremony.
“We need to continue working together to eradicate the HIV/AIDS scourge in Uganda and I want to appeal to the entire public to know their HIV status and for those who are positive don’t spread the virus” Tezra stressed.
Standard Chartered Bank 3 was runner-up with 217 points the team had Bonny Amale with 72 nett, Timothy Okwi with 70 nett, Wu Kun 79 nett and Shou Ta Huang with 75 nett. 100 golfers took part in the tournament.
