When Shamim Bangi defeated Marie Demy 2-1 (18-21, 21-13, 21-17) at the quarterfinal of the Botswana Badminton International she was guaranteed at least a bronze medal, unfortunately for her that is all she settled for.
This is after Bangi lost to Egyptian Hosny Hadia 2-1 (14-21, 23-21, 21-18) in the semifinals of the Championship on Saturday evening.
She won her first match after she whitewashed Zambian Mary Chilambe 2-0 (21-14, 21-18) before defeating South African Butler Mitchell 2-0 (21-8, 21-8).
Am not that disappointed, at least am impressed with my game. The other two tournaments I lost in the quarters but still I played well and this one I went all the way to the semis that a big plus.
She was referring to her last eight elimination at the Zambian and South African Internationals. Bangi will be expecting her world and continental ranking to improve because of the development.
Currently she is ranked third on the continent and 129th in the world.
