Kaizer Chief Coach Stuart Baxter has praised Ugandan international Ivan Bukenya after his impressive displays in their last two PSL fixtures.
The ex-Proline centre back has started the previous two fixtures as in the central defensive midfield role in the absence of Willard Katsande who is out injured and did well.
In an interview with KICK OFF Magazine, Baxter said Bukenya has shown Katsande that he can the job though he admits he has not played enough games to threaten the South African’s position.
“Certainly, Ivan has played well but I don’t think he’s played enough [games] to be able to threaten Willard’s position. He’s certainly raised his hand. We were concerned that without Willard our midfield will lack balance.
“I think Ivan has raised his hand and told Willard that, ‘If your game drops I’m a threat’. I think Ivan has done very well in the two games and he should be applauded for that,” he adds.
Bukenya started games against Free State Stars and Mpumalanga Black Aces which Chiefs won 2-1 and 1-0 respectively.
Bukenya has also played five fixtures this season as a substitute.
