Hardly had Tanzanian pay Television, Azam T.V officially approached the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) with a proposal bidding to sponsor the Uganda Premier League, than South African based Super Sport tabled an improved offer of U.shs 6.5 billion.
Uganda Premier League’s representative, Kavuma Kabenge traveled to South Africa at the start of the week to negotiate with the South African based television giants.
The development follows the on-going talks between Azam TV and two Ugandan club officials – Thaddeus Kitandwe (Vipers S.C) and Denis Mbidde (UPL Clubs’ chairman). The duo received full blessings of President, Moses Magogo to travel to Dar es Salaam to meet the Azam TV officials, who presented their proposal of $2.25M (1.28BN Uganda shillings).
Kawowo Sources have told us that Super Sport is “ready to topple the offer with $6.25M of which $2.5M is meant for the Big league and the Uganda Cup with the elite league pocketing $4M.
In the new deal, Super Sport has pledged to negotiate with the all the league clubs including the two defiant teams; Sports Club Victoria (SCVU) and Vipers that have since failed to sign the deed of adherence.
The fate of the 14 clubs which agreed to sign the deed has been given a green light with high hopes of securing their monies for the first round and the second stanza of the league set to kick off on 12th January 2015.
Azam T.V officials traveled to Kampala last week with their team, Azam F.C for a series of friendly matches that were televised live on the pay television channel.
It is reportedly said Azam TV officials met and discussed with a cross section of Ugandan club officials including Vipers’ director and former FUFA president, Lawrence Mulindwa.
