The Uganda Woodball Federation (UWF) remains one of the fast improving sports bodies in the country.
For the 5th year running Woodballs’ continuous progression is no doubt a big threat to the traditional sporting disciplines.
The game has continued to spread briskly at a lightening pace winning the praise of the number one citizen – President Yoweri Museveni Kaguta, who also sponsored the world cup bound team.

Prosperous Previous Year:
The year 2014 witnessed Uganda play at the 6th world cup hosted by China at the state of the art Luneng Bay Sanya Sports Center.
Uganda finished 5th out of 21countries with 2 respectable podium finishes where Ndejje University’s Onesmus Atamba and Sophie Namuddu finished 6th in the mixed doubles category.
The ladies team of Lillian Zawedde, Shamsa Kyolaba Nantege, Cissy Nakato, Viola Operu, Agnes Apio and Daniela finished 5th winning a cash prize of RMB 2,600.
Uganda also participated in yet another global event – The 4th World University woodball championship in Malaysia where Joel Adupa won a personal bronze medal.
Two time Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) female woodball players of the year, Lillian Zawedde participated in several international meet and her performance has continued.

UWF official, John Baptist Kateregga has single-handedly turned around the game
More Events on the Calendar:
In equal measure, more events on the domestic calendar were introduced and honoured.
Whereas 2014 marked the birth of new events on the calendar in the shape of the Entebbe, Mukono, Nakawa and Lyantonde opens, the game continued to be spread beyond the peripheries of Kampala and Luweero where it has strong roots.
The oldest wood ball competition in the country – the Uganda Woodball open marked its 6th edition, which was successfully played among other corporate, beach circuits and other championships honored.
For the first time in history, Woodball was on the menu on the East African University games rooster, and as expected, Ugandan universities, Ndejje, Bishop Stuart, Busitema, Busoga, Nkumba and UCU returned incredible scores.
Great Tides Ahead:
After yet another glamorous 2014, the events and activities of the Woodball Federation in 2015 promise to sparkle.
To start with, the second edition of the Lyantonde woodball open will open the calendar in January to be followed by the 7th Annual Woodball Congress at the UWF offices in Kampala.
Along the way, various refresher courses and clinics for players and administrators have been planned.
The local championships as usual cut across all the months of the year with various international opens set.
A schools’ championship in Nakaseke District, the first of its kind in the district has been added onto the 2015 calendar.
