Olympians FM Harold Wanyama and Patrick Kawuma have maximum points after four rounds of play in the ongoing Zone 4.2 Qualifiers, which saw the first four rounds played at Pope Paul Memorial Hotel in Rubaga on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th February 2015.
 
The Qualifiers will end next weekend with the fifth round scheduled for Saturday 21st February 2015.
 
At the end of the 8 rounds, the 4 top female and 4 top male players will be picked to join International Master Elijah Emojong and Woman FIDE Master Ivy Amoko as Uganda’s representatives at the Zone 4.2 Africa Chess Championships to be held in Kampala from 17 to 26 April 2015.
 
To get themselves to the top of the Qualifiers, Kawuma beat Wilson Mugwanya, Joseph Kaamu, Farouk Fauza and Daniel Baagadde while Wanyama outwitted Mugisha Ivan, Etoru Amos, and ex Olympians Shadrack Kantinti and Kenneth Kakooza.
Closely following is Arthur Ssegwanyi at 3.5 points after drawing with Rajab Kamoga and beating Haruna Nsubuga, Brian Mugabi and Benjamin Mukumbya. 
Olympian Ssonko Mathias Allan is on 3 points after a third round loss to Baagadde. Saali Julius and Patrick Ojok are some of the surprise leaders in at 3 points each. 
 
In the ladies category, Goretti Angolikin and Christine Namaganda are the early pace setters at 3.5 points each out of 4. Angolikin beat Grace Kigeni as Namaganda beat Phiona Mutesi in the fourth round. The other surprise leader is Joan Nakimuli at 3 points and so is Kigeni.
