It was unanimous and straight to the point as Uganda Sports Press Association members unanimously voted Uganda’s national golf team the Nile Special USPA sports personalities of the month of April at the monthly meeting held this morning at Imperial Royale Hotel, Kampala.
The Uganda national golf team won the 21st 2015 Africa Zone VI amateur golf tournament with a total of 18.5 points beating the defending champion South Africa with 17.5 to become the third country to win this prestigious golf tournament that attracted 9 African countries.
Uganda halted South Africa’s run going into this tournament as they had won the event a record 19 times with Kenya being the only country to have won it in 2010.
Uganda’s team was made up of captain Adolf Muhumuza, his older brother Lawrence Muhenda, Ronald Otile, Robert Oluba, Ronald Bukenya, Happy Robert, Gideon Kagyenzi, Henry Lujja,Martin Ochaya and reserve Ronald Rugumayo and was coached by Amos Kamya while the team manager was Oscar Ssemawere.
The sports scribes commended national chess player and Olympian Arthur Ssegwanyi won the Zone 4.2 Africa Chess Championship, becoming an International Master (IM) in the process and only the second IM in East Africa.
Patidar Samaj won the National Men’s T20 League, beating Nile Cricket Club by 4 wickets. Kololo won their maiden Girls Schools Cricket week title when they defeated defending champions Jinja SS by 7 wickets.
Rally crew of Arthur Blick Junior and Unisan Bakunda, were also commended for winning the Source of the Nile Rally.
