On May 11 the Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA) confirmed that Uganda will be part of the five nations to take part in the memorial tournament from June 7-9 in Rwanda.
Their Ugandan counterparts, FUFA have in the weekly press briefing on Wednesday refuted the development.
Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic told journalists that around the time, the national team will be preparing for a friendly against Gambia.
Even after www.newtimes.co.rw had quoted the Serbian: “The event will be very good to prepare our players ahead of the preliminary qualifier (CHAN) game against Tanzania on June 20.”
According to the Chief Executive Officer of the FERWAFA, Olivier Mulindahabi Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania had been invited with the former two verbally confirming participation.
“Uganda and Kenya have confirmed but we told them to write to us officially, we expect to know soon which other team will participate in the tournament,” Mulindahabi told www.newtimes.co.rw.
This will be the first time FERWAFA has organized a tournament in memory of the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
