Having had a blast in their first five fixtures of the season – winning at will, the KIU Titans faced back-to-back champions, City Oilers last Friday at Lugogo.
Being the two best teams (on paper) in the country, a huge game was expected and so it was. It may not have been an offensively heavy game, but it lived up to most peoples expectations – at least for the four quarters.
City Oilers eventually ran away with a 10 points (75-65) win after overtime. The Oilers scored more points in the five overtime minutes than any quarter as they exploded for 19 points.
KIU Titans managed just 9 in the same frame and their head coach, Hamza Nyambogo says they shouldn’t have given City Oilers another chance at the game when they had a chance to win it but takes that as a learning lesson to his team.
“When you can win a game against a defending champion you don’t give them another chance. For us its a learning lesson if you have a chance to take then you better take it”
Nyambogo was not impressed with his team’s decision making with the ball especially on offense something he says they will make amends and when the Titans (5-1) return on the floor, they will be much better.
“We were not making the right decisions with the ball so offensively we will go back and work and make sure we are much better on the next game”
“This is our first loss. It’s really our first big game so its a big learning for us and when we go back home we will make sure we correct and do everything we need to do and come back better next time”
“Like the word goes… Titans, we will come back… we will bounce back”
