All over the world, underage football teams are meant to be feeder projects to the senior clubs or even national team.

Though in Africa it has not been the same story. Underage teams have been predominantly marred with cases of age cheating, and Uganda has not been left out.

As the Kobs (U23) take on the Wasps of Rwanda this Saturday at Nakivubo head coach Micho Sredojevic has once again stated how the side is the future of Ugandan football.

“Surely the future of Ugandan football is bright, I must tell you,” he told Kawowo sports

“This is the best crop of young players have worked with and I won’t give up on them, they can take this country places,” he added.

What gives Micho confidence is that fact that the current crop of Kobs players has been around for a while, they have even had stints on the senior national team.

“In this team we have players who played in the team that played and beat Nigeria,” he added referring to Miya Farouk, Joseph Nsubuga, Shafik Bakika, Derrick Tekkwo, Ibrahim Kiyemba

“Then add Richard Kassaga, Kizito Luwaga and Alex Kakuba and two senior players in Denis Onyango and Geoffrey Massa, I believe we are on the right track.”

Kassaga has been invited to the Kobs camp as Uganda take a 2-1 lead going into the second leg.
