The 2015 National Chess League got underway this weekend with a record entry of 30 Clubs slugging it out as Kireka, Makindye, Mulago Knights, Mengo Chess Club and Makerere University Chess Clubs assumed an early lead after trouncing their first two opponents 5-0 each in rounds one and two played at Hotel Africana in Kampala.
 
Makindye, inspired by the recruitment of FIDE Master Harold Wanyama beat newcomers Makerere Queens and Ndejje University Slayers 5-0 respectively.
Mulago Knights instituted a baptism of fire on the two other new clubs Maisha Chess Club and Decoda Chess Clubs as they overrun them 5-0 in the first and second rounds.
 
The other new clubs participating in the league are Crestals Chess Club, Busitema Boons, Kyambogo University and SOM Chess Academy.
