CECAFA Kagame Cup 3rd Place Play Off:

KCC FC (Uganda) Vs Khartoum (Sudan) – National stadium, Dar es Salaam @ 1.30pm

Neither KCC FC nor Khartoum NS will be champions or runners up at this year’s CECAFA Kagame Cup but at least none of them will finish outside the top four.

Khartoum were put to sword in the semi-finals losing 3-1 to Gor Mahia while KCC FC narrowly missed out playing in the finals after losing to Azam FC 1-0.

However, that will be put aside when the two sides face off in a 3rd place off with prize money worth $ 10,000 at stake.

Speaking to the press after the loss to Gor Mahia, ex-Ghanaian coach Kwesi Appiah said they will try as much as they can to beat KCC FC.

“Lapses in concentration cost us against Gor Mahia but that is now behind us,” he said. “Our attention now turns to KCC FC and we want to leave a mark in the competition by at least finishing 3rd,” he added.

KCC FC assistant manager Sam Ssimbwa also echoed similar sentiments though he admitted his boys are down after the heart breaking loss to Azam.

“We are down as a team; including me but we shall give 3rd place a fight. Last year, we finished fourth in Kigali and we want to at least improve on that.”

Both teams are expected to make changes with Owen Kasule, Sakka Mpiima, Benjamin Ochan, Michael Birungi and Shaban Kondo expected to start.

Birungi and Kondo came on as substitutes in the 1-0 loss to Azam while Ochan has only started once; in the opening day loss to Azam with Kasule yet to start any game at the tournament.

Derrick Nsibambi and Martin Mpuuga are still out injured.

KCC FC Probable XI:

Benjamin Ochan (GK), Sakka Mpiima (C), Joseph Ochaya, Hassan Wasswa, Timothy Awany, Ivan Ntege, Hakim Senkumba, Owen Kasule, Muzamiru Mutyaba, Shaban Kondo and Michael Birungi.
