Wafula takes charge at Rhinos with all at stake in Uganda Cup quarter final

Herbert Wafula, former coach at Mutoni Warriors last season, is to stand on the touchline today commanding his new Rhinos players against Pirates in the Uganda Cup quarter final.

From Makerere Impis to Sadolin Mongers, G4S Pirates, plus a couple of national sides, Wafula is now bound to prove his worth once more with Rhinos as the Premiership outfit look forward to progressing to the semis and finals of the showpiece at Legends Rugby Grounds.

The former national captain says his new side is to go for all in a “win-it-all” campaign ahead of next term, starting with the Uganda Cup.

“I expect the team to chase top honours in all competitions starting with Uganda Cup,” Wafula told Daily Monitor. With now a fortnight into the job, Rhinos seem to be in better shape to perform better from former, John Musoke’s hands.

Wafula has a daunting task of matching last season and must be keen to commence with a high and impressive half synonymous with the past that had them overcome Pirates, Warriors and Mongers in a row before crumbling at the feet of Impis.

An easy 44-0 victory over Jinja Hippos in Jinja is how they started their Uganda Cup journey and all will be at stake with the maturing Pirates test. Rhinos beat Pirates once last season and later settled for a stalemate in the return leg.

Any dip in scrum-half Kevin Makmot’s form for Wafula’s side is barely expected after impressing between the uprights and off the mauls and scrums on the national team as well as the final half of last term.

Elsewhere Entebbe home of Mongers welcomes Toyota Buffaloes, Kobs target hunt survival with Warriors at Legends, while fired up Impis host Defending champions Heathens at the Makerere Graveyard.
