Uganda has dropped four places from 71st to 75th (with 455 points) as per the latest FIFA World Rankings released on Thursday, 1st October 2015 from the home of global football in Zurich, the capital of Switzerland.
The rankings could shock many despite the Cranes’ rare 1-0 away victory in Comoros in the AFCON 2017 qualification match.
Uganda’s other Group D opponents, Burkina Faso drops further 3 places to 76th (427 points) after suffering a 2-0 loss to Botswana in Gaborone.
Botswana themselves climb 7 places to 111th on 305 points. Comoros drop 3 places to 193rd with 48 points.
Togo, the next opponent for Uganda in the World Cup 2018 qualifiers in November is ranked 79th (with 418 points).
Despite the slip, Uganda remains the best performer in the entire CECAFA region. Sudan is 84th, Rwanda falls 15 places to 93rd with 364 points whilst Congo DR improves from 65th to 60th.
Ethiopia fell from 103th to 108th and Burundi improved from 134th to 113th while Kenya is 131st.
Uganda’s opponents in the CHAN 2016 qualifiers, Sudan improved 5 places, climbing to 84th from 89th.
Eritrea, Somalia and Djibouti are ranked 202th, 203rd and 206th respectively.
Other countries with improved rankings are Tanzania (rising to 136th from 140) and Zambia, who edged Kenya 2-1 in the AFCON 2017 qualifiers displace Uganda in the 71st place from 74th.
Best Movers:
Liberia was the best overall mover, improving 65 places from 160 to 95th.
Uganda neighbors to the north, South Sudan moved 54 places from 198 to 144 while Nicaragua moved 44 places from 139th to 95th.
Worst Movers:
Cyprus dropped 28 places falling from 86th to 114, same as Macedonia who fell from 104th to 132.
Afghanistan dropped 20 places from 130th to 150th.
Overall, Argentina maintains the number one slot with 1419.28 points. Germany displaces Belgium in second place.
Portugal, Colombia, Spain, Brazil, Wales, Chile and England complete the top ten positions of the world greatest football playing countries.
On the African continent, Algeria remains the number one country, ranked 19th in the world with 955 points, closely followed by Cote d’Ivoire with 924 points, seated 21st in the world out of 208 countries.
The next rankings will be released on 1st November 2015.
