Wycliff Bukenya won his third drivers’ day out race, with the fastest time in two of the day’s runs.

Twelve drivers took on the 26Kilometre distance with only ten finishing. Bukenya took lead after making the fastest times in all the challenge while Wilber Pole Pole and Ismail Ortega finished in second and third place respectively.

Added to the race was the tyre change challenge and fire challenge where drivers had to stop fire at a certain point.

“It was found out that some drivers do not know how to use the fire extinguishers. So we brought in the fire challenge to basically train drivers how to effectively stop fire while in a competition.” said Geoffrey Kiyaga, organiser of the Drivers Day Out.

Donations have always been part of the annual Rally Drivers Day Out and drivers donated fire equipments to the Kalangala Island police station.

Geofrey Kiyaga further shared with Kawowo Sports motives behind the donation.

“We saw it necessary to donate the equipment to the police this time after realizing that they were lacking them.”

“If you could remember when Mikidad’s car caught fire, the police came with small fire extinguishers which could not do anything to the fire, so with help of safety and fire appliances company we managed to get the equipment to donate,” he said.

The rally fraternity has donated school materials and clothes to orphans in past visits to the island.
