Seated bottom of the Uganda Premier League, Maroons F.C boast of only one win.

The 2014/15 FUFAF Big League champions [arguably the toughest league in the country] are yet to replicate the kind of form that saw them top the second tier league last season and the form they showcased in pre-season.

Record league winners SC Villa are among the teams that tested Maroons’ wrath as they got beaten 5-4 in penalties in Eid Cup in pre-season.

Speaking to Kawowo Sports on Saturday after that barren draw against Lweza at Wankulukuku, midfielder Yahya Luuti just like his coach, Asaph Mwebaze believes luck and inexperience in the team are the main causes of their poor performances.

We have the youngest squad in the league and majority of us had never tested the Uganda Premier League. This is our first time to play in top flight. Personally, I was brought from Fort Portal, the coach gave me an opportunity to prove myself which I am trying to do.

Asked about what he made of the draw, the midfielder who injured his ankle in their recent loss to Vipers says they were happy to go back home with a point.

Considering how physical the game was and how they attacked us, a draw is good enough a result. We are happy to have kept the clean sheet. We nearly lost it when we lost one of our best players Hudu Muliki to injury in the first half. He took on defenders thus keeping them at the back especially Nestroy Kizito. I think we tried matching them physically even though we are not any taller than them

The Fort Portal born however, believes they will survive relegation.

There is no way we are letting this (Maroons getting relegated) happen. We are going to fight till the final day to survive this. We always try to fight in every game but somehow luck isn’t on our side. This is a battle we must win. We have to stay in the league. This is what the entire team wants and this we must achieve.

Maroons with all their beautiful and entertaining football sit bottom of the league with 6 points.
