With barely three weeks till the start of CHAN 2016 in Rwanda that will see the league break off, teams have already started planning for the second round of the season.

SCVU’s coach, Haruna Mawa whose side is currently sitting 13th on the table with 14 points from 14 games will use this period to strength and settle plus try to move away from the drop zone.

January the transfer period is just around the corner. We are determined to strengthen our squad and the fact that the league will be off for more than three weeks will be a perfect time for us to settle as a team because we need to try and move out of that relegation line as soon as possible.

But for that to happen, the coach knows they must start their journey off the drop zone with their immediate task.

SCVU plays host to fellow strugglers Maroons FC on Tuesday 29th December at Nambole stadium and this according to Mawa is a “must win”.

This is a must win for us. We have to win this game because we badly need it. Most of our players have fully recovered from injuries and have fully gained fitness unlike the previous games where we had a semi fit squad. its definitely a boost to the squad.

Asked about the kind of impact the absence of captain Hamza Dezu (who’s in UK for studies) has to the team, Mawa seemed adamant his absence had not affected them in anyway but highlighted the importance of his maturity, experience and leadership to the team.

I would say his absence hasn’t affected us performance wise but the team misses his leadership and experience. He’s a very respected lad in the squad and being the captain, he’s a player most players look up to.

The team has financially suffered this season with players hardly receiving their daily bread which is believed to have demoralized the playing staff.

However, the head coach says after the players were settled a few days ago, the mood in the camp has changed.

Its true we had issues with our accounts. The bank couldn’t release money because Nsereko (the club owner) was out of the country yet they needed his presence. But he settled this issue and gave the players something. This has changed the players’ attitude and I believe good results are coming our way soon.

SCVU occupy the 13th position in the league with hardly a win in their last 4 games.
