Iraq Premier League: Al Shorta F.C 2-0 Erbil F.C

Uganda Cranes international, Hassan Wasswa Mawanda is excited about having started on a strong note in the Iraq premier league.

Wasswa played in his first match in Al Shorta football club’s home 2-0 victory against Erbil F.C on Tuesday.

The stocky defensive midfielder, who featured in the final 40 minutes of the game said after the game;

I am so happy for the victory. Thank you everyone who has been there for me

Formerly at Sports Club Villa Jogoo, Mawanda sought to be released from the Nsambya based club blaming them for breach of contract but the team officials were hesitant.

His Uganda based agent, Ronnie Santos the path sought by his client is the right one on as other juicy offers are lined up in the pipeline.

Santos intimated to Kawowo Sports;

I am so happy for Hassan (Mawanda). He is a committed servant and loves his job

Mawanda’s target at the moment is help guide his new club to the championship as a stepping stone to maintaining the form ahead of Uganda Cranes’ March 2016 double header in the AFCON 2017 qualifier against Burkina Faso.

Cranes’ head coach, Milutin Sredojevic is a keen follower of several players in the diaspora leagues and he could be in close surveillance of the proven blocking midfielder.

Wasswa was part of Uganda’s 2-0 home victory Botswana in the opening AFCON group D 2017 qualifier at Nelson Mandela National stadium.

Perhaps, inactiveness cost him being summoned for the subsequent matches against Togo and away in the World Cup 2018 preliminary round qualifiers.

He now sets eyes to Sunday’s match for his club against Najft Football club.

Vast Experience:

Wasswa has also previously played at Kampala Capital City Authority Football club in the Uganda Premier league before venturing in the murky professional waters in Ethiopia (St George), South Africa (Cape Town F.C), Turkey (Karabuspor,Altay S.K and Kayeseri Erciyessor)  as well as Dong Nai in Vietnamese premiership.
