4th African Nations Championship (Third Place): Guinea 1-2 Cote D’Ivoire

After falling 2-1 to Cote D’Ivoire in the third place match to Guinea, the latter’s coach, Mohamed Bangoura has attributed the loss to ill mental preparedness.

Bangoura was addressing the media after game at Amahoro; “Our problem today was physiological. We were weak mentally. We only recovered after going down two goals. We are disappointed but that is football.”

Guinea fell two goals down by the first half before rallying to score a goal and create a tense finish to the match. Defender, Mohamed Youla passed a seemingly weak back pass that beat goalie Keita for the opener a minute after the hour mark.

Midfielder, Badie Gbagnon doubled the advantage with 10 minutes to the half time break.

Flanked by the goalkeeper and captain of the side, Abdoul Aziz Keita, a seeming disappointed Bangoura lauded the overall level of organization of the tournament and the quality of the game; “The level of competition has been great. There is a general improvement in the level of local talents on the African continent.”

Overall, Guinea missed two penalties in the third place match. Cote D’Ivoire finish third at the 4th edition of the CHAN 2016 event.
