Maroons 0-1 Vipers
Vipers had Erisa Ssekisambu’s goal to thank for Tuesday’s 1-0 slim win over relegation threatened side Maroons.
In a game that looked balanced right from start, Vipers took advantage of Maroons uncoordinated and sloppy defence to snatch the three points through the club’s top scorer Ssekisambu in the 43rd minute.
Although Vipers took charge of the game in the first 10 minutes, Maroons grew into the game and matched their opponents. A 35th minute dangerous attack that involved Rapheal Winju, Yahya Luuti and Maxwell okello should’ve seen Maroons take the lead but Otai’s failure to control the ball inside the box failed the hosts.
Viper’s quick reaction brought about the game’s lone goal in the 43rd minute. Maroons after failing to deal with the loose ball saw defender Okello collide with fellow defender Sylvester Okello thus granting Viper’s striker Ssekisambu an opportunity to net the opener.
Despite that setback, the hosts continued to attack but only had their poor finishing to blame.
The Second half started with both coaches opting for fresh legs. Duncan Seninde made way for Alfred Leku as Maroons’ Musa Ssali and Salim Kiyaga replaced Eddy Muyingo and Peter Otai respectively.
Vipers had a chance to double their lead in 56th minute through Dan Bilikwalira’s magnificent shot but the woodwork came to the rescue of Maroons.
Coach George “Best” Nsimbe later made another substitution introducing Siraje Ssentamu for Wanji.
Forward Hassan Kalega saw his name enter the referee’s book for a foul on Dennis Rukundo . Ssali had his too recorded in the referee’s book. Maroons are still rooted at the bottom of the table
