Power 64-73 Warriors
Pemba Warriors recovered from their dismal against KIU Titans in their last game of the first round to oust five time champions Power in the first game of the second round at YMCA.
The game, which saw the two sides exchange leads throughout, swang into Warriors’ favour when Mark Opio hit two 3-pointers to stretch the two time champions’ lead to 8 points in the last quarter.
“We tried to contain their transition game and it worked for us,” Warriors’ assistant coach Ronnie Mutebi told Kawowo Sports after the game.
Opio registered a game high 23 points to give Sam Obol’s charges their eighth win of the season while Philip Ameny had 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Ceaser Kizito and Syrus Kiviri contributed 19 and 12 points respectively. Power’s Michael Makiadi and team captain Joseph Ikong scored 14 points each in Power’s losing effort while Fahmy Ssebatindira managed 13.
“We want to take one game at a time but our target is to win every game of the second round,” Mutebi told this website.
Power’s loss was their third of the season and now have a 9-3 record while Warriors improved to 8-4.
