Even though he missed a call up back to the Uganda Cranes for the friendly against Kenya, Charlotte Independence regular Henry Kalungi has continued to show support for his national team back home.

The player on Friday took to social media to join the rest of the nation in supporting the team ahead of their must-win Kenya friendly – a preparatory match for their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier against Comoros.

Kalungi clad in a Uganda Cranes jersey smiled for the camera as he captioned a photo of himself, cheering the outfit to go ahead and shine.

The 28-year-old has enjoyed a fresh era of intensive drills and great football since returning from an injury that kept him out for nearly an entire year.

From suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in a Richmond Kickers game on July 31, 2014, he returned to action mid-summer in 2015.

He has since impressed, even making it to the United Soccer League team of the week off his spectacular performance in Independence’s 3-1 win over Harrisburg City in late June.

Independence coach Mike Jeffries was pleased with Kalungi whom he described “a very solid defensive stalwart” in an interview with The Herald.

The player returns to action with Independence on Sunday away from home in Charleston.
