
As the Vanguard Lions captured their 14th straight victory on Saturday, Ugandan, Claire Lamunu ascended to the top of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) scoring chart.
Lamunu scored team high 18 points to pace the Lions to a 61-50 win over Hope International University to take her season tally to 458 points in 19 games and is shooting just over 58% from the field.
With the 24.1 points per game, the former Makerere and KCCA forward leads the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (Division I) in scoring.
Oklahoma City’s Daniella Wallen is second with 436 points in 18 games which puts her average at 24.2 points. Wallen and Lamunu have connected 184 and 191 shots respectively from the floor.
Lamunu who has been impressive in her second season has also cleaned the glass on both ends.
With 256 rebounds in 19 games, she leads the cast in total rebounds but second on average with 13.4 per game behind Texas College’s Juma Linet who has 255 boards from 16 game to put her average at 15.9 per game.
Lamun and Vanguard return to action on Tuesday, January 24 against Biola University.
