Time immemorial, new environs have always called for fast and swift acclimatization mechanisms.

The urgent and sound need for quick weather adjustment, food, language, people and the like always precipitates life.

Since arriving in Gabon over 10 days ago, I have been on a desperate quest to at least grasp and learn the basics.

Fast forward, the vastly spoken French language across the country, grasp and direction of local places (with the help of google maps and guides), the hot and humid weather and worthy to add – the domestic dishes.

Communication has kept improving for the better owing to little French background back then in secondary school and of course interpreters.

The warm coastal weather has not been that friendly but the availability of abundant drinking water and A.C’s has acted to relieve the situation.

Then comes the most demanding component of food. Tasting the different sea fish species, bread sandwiches of poulet (chicken), beef and vegetable, traditional greens, sweet plantain and our favorite ‘Poulet’ source has been a phenomenal experience.

Of course, there has been a chance to taste all the dishes and I will authoritively assert, Poulet-Riz (Rice and Chicken) combo has been the most tasty.

I look forward to eating more sea fish species on this adventure for the remaining group stage and knock out matches in Gabon.

The free match day meals provided by the AFCON 2017 local organizing committee are a worthy meal that you would part with Ushs 60,000 on any day.

It will be saddening to see the Uganda Cranes fly back home on Thursday at a time we would have hoped that they remained in the tournament.

Success wishes to the Uganda Cranes in the last group D match against Mali in the Northern Gabonese city of Oyem on Wednesday.

Safe journey back to Entebbe International Airport and to your respective homes as we plot for project Cameroon 2019.

MUJJE TULUMBE.
