Ugandan neighbours Rwanda will play at this year’s FIBA Afrobasket championship set for August this year.

The FIBA Africa Executive Committee confirmed this on Tuesday as they completed the lineup for the 16 teams to play at the championship with awarding of the two wild cards to Rwanda and Guinea.

The two teams complete the 16-team line-up for the tournament set to take place in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo August 19-30.

Guinea and Rwanda join hosts Republic of Congo, reigning champions Nigeria, former champions Angola, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Senegal, Tunisia, Uganda and South Africa – who earned their places through the FIBA AfroBasket 2017 Qualifiers.

Rwanda last appeared at the tournament in 2013 and have failed to earn qualification in the last two Qualifiers.

On two occasions in 2014 and early this year, Rwanda couldn’t get past Uganda and Egypt in the Zone V tournament, a qualifier to the continental showpiece.

The Official Draw for FIBA AfroBasket 2017 will take place later this month.
