Charlotte Independence registered their second win in five games thanks to a 2-0 win over Richmond Kickers on Sunday.
Enzo Martinez netted a brace to help Uganda Cranes’ Kalungi and teammates walk away with a win after a brilliant defensive display.
Martinez pounced in 45th minute when he converted a penalty with a right footed shot to the bottom left corner of the net. Kickers conceded the penalty after Conor Shanosky’s reckless foul in the area in the 43rd minute.
Martinez doubled the lead in the 57th minute thanks to his header from the center of the box to the top left corner, assisted by Joel Johnson.
Kalungi was active throughout the whole match. The defender swept clean all dangerous balls – getting cautioned twice.
Independence are 8th on the log with 19 points, 12 behind USL Eastern Conference leaders Charleston Battery.
