For the second year running, the Phillip Omondi Invitational Tournament was successfully organized over the weekend.

Held in memory of club and Uganda Cranes’ legend – Phillip Omondi, the tournament is organized by KCCA Football Club.

Proline Football Club once again won the tournament that had all the four matches played at the Lugogo stadium over two days.

Just like last year, four clubs took part – each playing two matches. Three points were up for grabs for a victory recorded, one point for a draw and each goal scored was supplemented by a point.

On day one, Proline and Prisons’ side Maroons played to a one all draw while hosts KCCA and Bright Stars were all square in a barren draw in the subsequent match.

On Sunday, Bright Stars pipped Maroons 1-0 before Proline outwitted KCCA 2-1.

David Owor’s first half penalty gave Mujib Kasule’s coached  Proline a first half time. The penalty was awarded following a foul on Fahad Bayo by Habib Kavuma in the forbidden zone.

Sadiq Abubaker found in the equalizer for KCCA in the second half.

Proline’s Daniel Isiagi, fresh from trials in Slovakia had other ideas altogether. The lanky midfielder cum forward chipped beautifully over goalkeeper Charles Lukwago following a telling ball from Nigerian born Bismack Maduake.

At the end of the day, the computations were done and Proline was top with 7 points to defend their crown that came forth with gold medals and a trophy.

All the 4 clubs used the mini tournament as a perfect measure and warm up for the 2017-18 season.
