Weatherhead coach-player Vincent Kasasa

Weatherhead found no resistance in thrashing Simba over the weekend as they kept their hopes of winning the National Hockey League title for the first time since 2011 alive.

The side pummeled Ali Mohammad’s team 17-0, with striker Peter Elolu netting six times in that game.

Player-coach Vincent Kasasa found the net five times as his side cruised past the dreadful Simba. The other two players who notched more than once were new acquisition Timothy Ntumba and Topher Kyamanywa, each with two strikes. Moses Tushabe and Rodney Nagaba each netted once for their side.

Weatherhead did not only cut the point gap atop with that victory; they also reduced the goal difference between themselves and table leaders Wananchi. The defending champions lead the table with 25 points and have a goal difference of 40.

Weatherhead who have played a game less than Wananchi and Kampala Hockey Club Stallions remain third with 20 points, but now have a goal difference of 34. The goal difference is likely to determine the league winner this term.

Kasasa and his side are still waiting for the executive to rule in their favor. The side lodged a complaint against KHC for using an ineligible player in the two sides’ contest a month ago. Weatherhead lost that game 1-0, but they’ll hope the Stallions lose that game by forfeit.

Those three points will put them to within two points of leaders Wananchi who they face over the weekend in a must win tie for the side.
