Match Day 4 presented the first upset at the 2017 FIBA Africa Champions Cup as Gombe Bulls shocked Sport Libolo e Benfica at Salle Multidisciplinaire de Radès.

The Nigerian side defeated last year’s losing finalists 75-67 on Friday to pick their first win at the tournament.

Libolo started strong but fell off as the first quarter drew to close and Gombe Bulls took the final quarter 26-23.

The second quarter was as even with the two sides matching each other well though the Angolan side won the quarter 16-15.

After the halftime break, Libolo stayed locked in particularly in the third quarter before a fourth quarter collapse in which they scored a just 11 points.

Turning Point

With 3:43 to play and Libolo leading 65-63, Bulls’ forward Yakubu Sylvanus Istifanus (19 points) connected a jumper to tie the game at 65. Ibe Agu (15 points) added two free throws and a jump shot to put the Bulls in the lead and they held on for the victory.

Godwin David and Abdulwahad Yakubu contributed 10 points apiece in Gombe’s victory.

Meanwhile, Olimpio Cypriano scored team high 13 points for Libolo and Reggie Moore scored 11 points to go with 10 boards.
