KCCA Manager Mike Mutebi admitted the draw for the CAF Champions League group stages is tough but says it’s the challenge his side cherished.
The Ugandan champions were drawn in group A alongside Debutants Township Rollers of Botswana and former winners Al Ahly (Egypt) and Esperance of Tunisia.
“It is a very tough draw,” Mutebi told Cafonline in Cairo. “We are an emerging force and a young team with an average age of 22,” he added.
This is the challenge we have been waiting for. Last season, we played against clubs from Egypt (El Masry) and Morocco (FUS Rabat), so we have experience against North African clubs, and we believe that will motivate us.
Mutebi, who led KCCA to the group stages of the Caf Confederation Cup last year and only missed out on a quarter final spot due to goal difference promises a good fight.
We will be playing against some of the big sides in African football, but we are not scared. We are going to put up a good fight.
In 1997, KCCA lost to Tunisia’s Esperance 9-1 over two legs in a continental tie.
