Second tier club Kitara Football Club plays host to the Uganda Cup defending champions, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) at  the bare and barren Boma ground in Hoima Municipality on Saturday.

This will be the first of the four quarter finals lined up with the other coming 24 hours later when Sports Club Villa Jogoo plays nemesis side KJT at Lugogo on Sunday and remaining two quarter finals will be played the following weekend.

Kitara is a known giant killing entity especially in the Uganda Cup and already this edition, just like in the previous year, they have already eliminated a top flight club, Express Football Club.

Coming to the game proper, both sides have had a mixed share of unpromising form.

Kitara has slipped up of late in the FUFA Big league Rwenzori group, paving way for rivals Nyamityobora to consolidate top summit status at the league and enlighten their chances of qualifying for top flight football next year.

The latest dip was the goal-less home draw with Kabale based debutants Sharp F.C on Thursday.

Likewise, KCCA has also struggled in the previous two matches, playing goal-less away to Maroons and one all on the road to Onduparaka at the Green Light.

Mike Mutebi, the manager at KCCA is well aware of the bad patch and has warned his players to guard against gross complacency and realize that any club can shock you in the Uganda Cup.

We are ready for all conditions. My players are aware and we start the game as clear favourites nonetheless. Because of our good scouting policy, we have been monitoring Kitara since the last two seasons when they eliminated Express. My players are aware of the task at hand, to win and qualify for the semi finals. Kitara has some exciting young players from West Nile and a few experienced players, we shall handle them with the due care

Mutebi will miss Julius Poloto and Allan Okello who traveled to South Sudan with the Uganda U-20 team for the return leg.

The good news is that left back, Mustafa Kizza will make the Hoima trip because he did not travel with Okello and Poloto following his earlier red card in the first leg at Lugogo.

Long term injury casualty Saddam Ibrahim Juma continues with the recovery path with promising news that midfielder Muzamiru Mutyaba and Jackson Nunda are also near full fitness.

Up front, Mutebi is spoilt for choice  with options as Muhammed Shaban, Paul Mucureezi, Patrick Kaddu and Derrick Nsibambi.

Isaac Kirabira, Solomon Okwalinga and Lawrence Bukenya will be the options for the anchoring role in the middle of the pack as team captain Timothy Awany provides the due leadership from the back alongside the tried and tested Denis Okot Oola.

‘Mr Safe hands’ Charles Lukwago could be rested for Thomas Ikara or Jamil Maliyamungu who are prefered options for this knock out competition.

Enter Kitara Football Club.

They are assured of the 12th man on the field of play – supporters.

Herbert ‘Counsel’ Billy  Alinda has been the club’s prodigal son over the past 12 months. He will be joined by the experienced legs of brothers – Derrick Tekkwo and Rogers Lukwiya as goalkeeper Chrispus Kusiima provides the back cover.

Veteran defender Yasin Mubiru, who formerly played at UPDF, Moses Odella, Ivan Kyoote, Oscar Munihiza and Samuel Adipo are some of coach Nathan Ssekitto’s picks for the defence-line.

Ssekitto, a CAF B licensed tactician says his team is ready for the match;

We have been ready for this match for such a long period of time. These are kind of matches where true men are proved. Kitara is ready to maintain its fine run in this tournament and being at home is added advantage.

To progress for the quarter finals, Kitara eliminated Buganda regional side, Seeta United 4-1 in Hoima at the round of 16 stage.

KCCA, on the other hand eliminated Soana 4-3 on post match penalties after normal time had ended 2 all.

The winner will progress to the semi finals and await the fate of the other three matches yet to be played.

All the quarter finalists are at least assured on Shs 5M.

The champion of the Uganda Cup shall smile home with Shs 30M.

The runner ups will get Shs.20m, the two losing semi- finalists shall pocket Shs. 10m each while the quarter finalists will each receive Shs.5m.
