Bright Stars piped Mbarara City 1-0 during one of the two matches of the Uganda Premier League played at the Champions Stadium in Mwererwe on Saturday.

Team captain, Nelson Senkatuka led by example with a predatory strike in the opening stanza of the game that arrived in the 13th minute.

This was Senkatuka’s 12th goal of the season, that shot him aloft the rest of the scorers.

The home team defended in numbers after the goal to seal a memorable victory.

FIFA Referee Alex Muhabi cautioned Mbarara City’s Sam Kansiime in the 34th minute and the Bright Stars duo of left Samuel Sekitto and usual suspect Jimmy “Kachanga” Kakooza in the 74th and 90th minutes respectively.

The Stars, coached by Fred Kajoba and Paul Kiwanuka and bank rolled by Japanese famous footballer Keisuke Honda, thus attained their 6th win of the campaign in 25 games.

This elevated them to 9th on 30 points, displacing BUL who drew one all in the famous Jinja derby with Kirinya-Jinja S.S.

Mbarara City, christened the “Ankole Lions” suffered their 9th defeat of the season, leaving the league debutants not so safe from relegation politicking as they have 26 points in the 12th position.

Both clubs will return to a action six days ahead. Bright Stars will visit Kirinya-Jinja S.S at the Kyabazinga Stadium, Bugembe on Saturday, 28th April 2018.

On the same day, Mbarara City will play host to the current league leaders, Sports Club Villa Jogoo at the Kakyeeka stadium.
