Fahad Aziz Bayo will not feature for Uganda Cranes in the decisive match against Malawi on Monday next week. The striker who is nursing an injury sat out of Friday’s training session.

Bayo who plies his trade with FC Ashdod in Israel came on as a second half substitute in the goalless draw between Uganda and Burkina Faso at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende replacing Patrick Kaddu who had pulled a muscle.

It is believed the striker could have had a slight injury before joining camp and aggravated it in warm up before coming on against Burkina Faso.

Bayo sat out of Friday’s training and could only watch on as the team continued with preparations for Monday’s game.

FUFA Communications Director, Ahmed Hussein indicated the Federation planned for such circumstances thus calling a big squad.

“With games being played in a short period and considering these are COVID-19 times, FUFA thought it wise to have a squad big enough to cater for occurrences like injuries. We believe the coach still has options to pick from.” He told Kawowo Sports.

It should be noted that his teammate at FC Ashdod, Timothy Awany who is in camp is also ruled out of the game.

Awany who is also injured did not make even the bench on Wednesday and wasn’t part of the training session on Friday.

The aforementioned duo join Bevis Mugabi who turned down the call up since he was just returning from injury.

Kaddu who was stretchered off in the game against Burkina Faso is also a doubt for the game. Him and winger Abdu Lumala were excused from team training and only did individual drills on the sidelines while right back Elvis Bwomono has since returned to his club (South End) in England.

Uganda needs a point in the game against Malawi to qualify for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

National Teams Officer Paul Mukatabala and Dr. James Ssekajugo already travelled to Lilongwe, Malawi as advance party.
