Following the Fufa Disciplinary Panel’s decision to order for a replay of BUL – SC Villa in the Stanbic Uganda Cup, the football fraternity has been left in shock.

The Jogoos had been eliminated by BUL after a 1-0 win at Fufa Technical Centre, Njeru but had what appeared a genuine equaliser towards the end of the game ruled out for offside.

In the aftermath, the Referees Standing Committee Chairman Brian Miiro released a statement stating they were reviewing the incident and on February 24, a shocking decision came out.

FUFA says that they received a report from the Referee’s Disciplinary panel that indicated the Assistant Referee Muyanga Khalid admitted that he had made an incorrect decision of denying Villa the goal.

FUFA decision report states that Muyanga’s decision to cancel the goal was ‘extraordinary wrong’ and exceeded reasonable human error.

“It’s possible that if the goal was not cancelled in the above circumstances, the results would have been different,” reads a decision in part.

“This being a knockout tournament, the cancellation of the goal eliminated the Club from the tournament.

“As a result, such extraordinary factors necessitate a decision to order the two clubs to replay the match.”

FUFA added: “The CDP orders that the Uganda Cup match between BUL and SC Villa be replayed.”

The Federation added that each party shall cater for its own costs for preparation of the match.

The game will be played at Njeru, with a date set to be communicated later on.

Former KCCA FC Spokesperson and Fufa Marketing official Aldrine Nsubuga was left speechless.

Ruben Luyombo, seasoned journalist wrote on his Facebook; “I have nothing against SC Villa but the Competitions Disciplinary Committee ordering a replay against BUL because of a disallowed goal is the most deplorable decision. Will it be sustainable? i though football was a game of mistakes and the ref words are final.”

It’s the first time in recent memory that FUFA has ordered a match that was played to competition, to be replayed, in recent memory.
