African Games 2023
Football (Men)
Nigeria vs Uganda
Accra Sports Stadium
Kickoff: 8PM (GMT) and 11PM (EAT)

Uganda U20 Men’s National Football Team will begin their journey at this year’s African Games with a tricky clash against Nigeria.

The game that will be played today at Accra Sports Stadium marks Uganda’s return to the competition for the first time since 2011.

Coach Morley Byekwaso is oozing with confidence ahead of the game and he is unfazed by the tagline of Nigeria being one of the favourites.

The coach believes his charges are in perfect shape and ready to face anyone at the tournament.

“We have had good preparations since we entered camp, had practice games in Ethiopia and I believe the players are ready for this tournament,” he said.

“We respect Nigeria as superpowers of African football but we don’t fear them. We played against them at AFCON U20 last year and I believe the team has improved a lot since then, so I believe we have what it takes to beat them here.” He said.

Nigeria reached the final of men’s football at the African Games in 2019 but lost to Burkina Faso.

Uganda’s best position at the African Games came in 1999 when they reached the semifinals.

Uganda’s probable Starting XI
Abdu Magada (GK), Haruna Lukwago, Ibrahim Juma, Cyrus Kibande, Rogers Torach, John Innocent Kisolo, Allan Oyirwoth, Hakim Mutebi, Bruno Bunyaga, Arafat Usama, Patrick Jonah Kakande
