Uganda's delegation at the 13th African Games has swimming, football, cycling, chess, table tennis, rugby, cricket, badminton and athletics.
Uganda’s Anna Gloria Muzito has won the first medal for the country at the on-going 13th African Games in Accra city, Ghana on Saturday, 9th March 2024.
The U.S based swimmer earned bronze in the women’s 100m free style race inside the Acquatics centre at Bortyman sports complex in Accra.
Muzito clocked a time of 56:01 seconds to finish behind Egypt’s Farida Osman and South African Caltin Ann De Lange during the competitive finale well cheered by a noisy gallery.
This time posted is a national record over the distance.

Lange swam fastest with a timing of 55:53 seconds to win the race ahead of Egyptian Osman (55:62).
Muzito had a slow beginning off the blocks in lane three but recovered in the next 25 metres to close gap in among the top five.
Upon return for the last 50 metres, Muzito had got closer and within reach among the four fastest swimmers.

She touched the blocks with a timing of 56:01 ahead of Egyptian Nadine Abdallah (57:27) and Botswana’s Maxine Caltin Egner (58:00) amid loud cheers from a handful of Ugandans in the stands led by National Council of Sports (NCS) representatives.
The final 100 freestyle race had eight swimmers who had progressed from the preliminary stage held earlier in the day.


I am delighted about my performance by winning the first medal for Uganda at these African Games this edition. It has been down to training and good preparations. I thank my entire coaching team and family for helping me out. I look forward more impressive performances.

Meanwhile, in the men’s freestyle race Jimme Clayton won gold to complete the South Africa’s double gold in the event.
For the 4X100M freestyle relay final, South Africa took gold after finishing top with 3:34:41.
Egypt scooped silver (3:37:01) whilst Algeria settled for bronze with 3:40:45. Hosts Ghana and Namibia completed the top five positions with times of 3:42:97 and 3:43:88 respectively.
Uganda finished sixth with a time of 3:47:37. Mozambique was 7th (3:54:94) and Botswana 8th (3:55:02) during the well cheered final.
