Uganda’s female medal hopefuls Husinah Kobugabe and Fadilah Mohammed Rafi Shamika in badminton sport advanced to the semi-finals of the singles’ category on Saturday, 9th March 2024.

These two Ugandans won their respective quarter final matches at the Bortyman sports complex in Accra city, Ghana.

Kobugabe defeated Africa’s number one female badminton player Kate Foo Kune from Mauritius to make the grade to the last four stage.

Fadilah is the other female Uganda who qualified to the semi-finals.

Two Ugandans Tracy Naluwooza and Gladys Mbabazi did not pass the litmus test to progress past the quarter final stage.

Uganda now eyes at least two medals from Fadilah and Kobugabe as confessed by the head coach William Kabindi.

“We expect at least two medals from Mohammed Fadilah and Husinah Kobugabe. They have sacrificed a lot and played gallantly” Kabindi stated.

On Saturday, Uganda had action in the mixed doubles; bowing out at the round of 16; doubles and singles.

Sunday presents the semi-finals in the morning with the finals later in the day and the official medal presentation ceremony.

Uganda’s swimmer Gloria Anna Muzito won the country her first medal at the on-going 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana.

Muzito clocked 55.1 seconds to finish third and take bronze during the women’s 100M freestyle final held at the Acquatics center (Bortyman sports complex).
