All the three stanzas for the treasured Uganda national anthem have been played in Ghana on the sunny afternoon of 15th March 2024.

This was after cyclist Charles Kagimu won the East African country yet another gold medal at the on-going African Games in Accra, Kumasi and Cape Coast cities.

Kagimu clinched the treasured gold medal in the individual time trial category in Poukuase, a suburb of Ghana’s capital city, Accra.

The fast rider is also the reigning African champion in the same category having also won that title at the same Poukuase Street venue in February 2023.

“This is humbling” Kagimu sighed with relief. “I thank God for this victory. The heat was much but I managed to succeed. I also thank my fellow riders for the good race” he added.

Kagimu’s gold is the second for Uganda at the games after the badminton pairing of Husinah Kobugabe and Gladys Mbabazi also won gold.

By close of business on Friday, Uganda had won a total of 8 medals at the games.

These include two golds (badminton and cycling), three silvers (weightlifting) and three bronze medals (swimming and weightlifting).

Uganda has strong representation in Athletics, Boxing, Weightlifting, Cricket, Rugby (7’s), Table Tennis, Tennis, Swimming, Cycling, Basketball, Taekwondo, Handball, football and badminton.
