Uganda’s boxing duo of Khassim Murungi and Muzamiru Ssemuddu progressed to the quarter finals at the on-going 13th African Games in Ghana.
Both Murungi and Ssemuddu had their respective bouts halted prematurely to avoid severe damage to the opposition at the Boukum sports arena.
Murungi needed a second round knock out victory as Ssemuddu’s opponent, Holonue Akoussan was guarded from further punishment by the referee after the Ugandan had run riot.

Ssemuddu will now face host country fighter Henry Malm (among Ghana’s top fighters).
Murungi and Ssemuddu join Owen Kibira who won by an unanimous point’s decision.
“I attacked the opponent from the word go. I needed it (Knock-out) down in the early stages of the bout. I am so happy for this victory. I will prepare for the next bout in no-time” Ssemuddu revealed.
The other fighter, a female, Shalua Musa Ndagire lost by points in her round of 16 bout.
