Uganda Women 7s national team have not minced their words in saying they want to win the gold medal during the inaugural Rugby 7s at the 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana.
Coach Charles Onen said that Uganda are approaching each match in the tournament like a final.
“We are not settling for less. We are going to give our best and I believe the girls are in good moods of getting the trophy. We just have to work hard in every game because it’s a round-robin format. Each game is a final for them and they know it. I believe they are up for it and I’m sure they can bring it home.”
The team is in top shape and have spent four days acclimatizing to the hot and humid conditions in Accra.
“As it is, we don’t have any major injuries in the team. For the weather, there is nothing we can do about it. In Uruguay where we were, it was also very hot and the last four days we have been training under the hot sun. So the bodies are getting used to it and I believe having two games a day is not too much for us.”

Captain Peace Lekuru added that the team is not undermining any of their four opponents in the tournament.
“We are not undermining anyone. So, against everyone, we are counting like a final on our side. We believe everyone is good so that is the mentality that we have as a team.”
Uganda, and all the other teams in the women’s competition, will kick off their African Games campaign on Wednesday morning (Day Two).
