Black Pearls will get a champions’ guard of honour when they walk onto the pitch during the final round of the 2024 women’s league. This will be at Kings Park on Saturday, May 18 before the 2 p.m. kickoff against Ewes.
They sealed their title last Saturday after beating Nile Rapids by 58-11 points at home during the penultimate round.
Getting knocked out of the Uganda Cup by eventual champions Nile Rapids is the wake-up call Black Pearls needed, according to coach Helen Buteme.
“Losing the Uganda Cup was a wake-up call for the players because they had become complacent and then the suspension of Emilly (Lekuru) affected us,” Buteme said to Daily Monitor Sports.
“We went back to the drawing board and set a target to not only win every game but win with a bonus point and I’m very proud of the girls because we achieved it.”
Still-undefeated Black Pearls are nine points clear at the top of the standings with eleven wins, ten of which came with a bonus point.
A victory over Ewes on the weekend will deliver their second successive XVs trophy won without conceding defeat.

Emilly Lekuru is on course to set a never-seen-before record in the competition. She is the league’s runaway top try scorer with sixty-four tries and will certainly add more to her tally.
