Uganda Women have got a late reality check in the 2024 World Rugby HSBC 7s Challenger during the final round in Krakow.

Paraguay, who were yet to win a match on Day One this entire series, beat them in Pool B’s opening round of fixtures.

Then they survived a late surge from Papua New Guinea in the second round before dropping more points against Argentina to conclude Day One’s action.

Uganda Women’s Results on Day One:

  • Match 1: Uganda 14-17 Paraguay
  • Match 2: Uganda 27-26 Papua New Guinea
  • Match 3: Argentina 31-20 Uganda

Grace Nabaggala was Uganda’s top try scorer with four tries.

The other tries were scored by Lydia Namabiro (3), Peace Lekuru, Mary Gloria Ayot, Grace Auma, and Agnes Nakuya. Maimuna Nassozi and Nabaggala (2) kicked the conversions.

Uganda’s two losses on Day One meant they finished third in the pool and their chances of progressing to the Cup Quarterfinals on Day Two depended on other teams’ results.

Luckily, Uganda sneaked into the Cup Quarterfinals as the second-best third-ranked team. However, rather unluckily, they will face top-seed China at 12.44 p.m. EAT on Day Two.
