Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Football Club progressed to the quarter finals of the 2024-2025 Stanbic Uganda Cup in style.

An emphatic 4-0 victory over Kitara Regional League side Rwenzori Lions ensured that the 10-time Uganda Cup winners secured their berth in the cup quarter finals.

James Mubezi scored twice with Sadat Happy Anaku and Etienne Openga Katenga added one apiece for the dominant KCCA.

Mubezi opened the scoring business as early as the 9th minute off an inviting corner kick by Arafat Usama.

Usama missed the opportunity to double the lead with a free-kick over and Anaku was denied from close range from the goalkeeper as the opening stanza ended 1-0.

Anaku tapped home Mubezi’s laid ball from the left two minutes into the second half to double the host’s lead.

In the 69th minute, Mubezi continued with his great run in the game with his second goal on the flood-lit evening, the team’s third goal.

Katenga capitalized upon a defensive blunder to seal the nail in Rwenzori Lion’s coffin with the fourth goal on the stroke of full time.

Abdullah Mubiru’s coached KCCA is chasing for their 11th title in the Uganda Cup competition since earlier triumphs in 1979, 1980, 1982, 1984, 1987, 1990, 1993, 2004, 2017 and lately 2018.

Meanwhile, Sports Club Villa gritted their teeth to overcome Lugazi 1-0 in Najjembe on the same day.

After a goal-less opening 45 minutes, the game came to life when Reagan Mpande scored the solitary goal for the Jogoos in the 69th minute.

The Jogoos have won the Uganda Cup trophy 9 times in 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2009 and lately in 2015.

It is now 10 years ago since the Jogoos smiled with the Uganda Cup trophy.

At the FUFA Technical center in Njeru, Jinja based BUL humiliated West Nile regional sideTotal 7-0 in a one sided-duel.

Karim Ndugwa, Isaac Wagoina, Reagan Kalyowa all scored a brace apiece for BUL.

Lawrence Tezikya added the other goal as BUL progressed to the quarter finals of the championship that has been played since 1971.

Other Fixtures

On Wednesday night, Vipers will entertain Blacks Power at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

At Nakivubo Stadium, URA will tussle out against second division Kataka from Mbale.

The winner of the Uganda Cup qualifies to earn a slot to play at the CAF Confederation Cup.
