  • 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers (Group G):
  • Mozambique 3-1 Uganda

Mozambique humbled a 10-man Uganda Cranes outfit 3-1 at the Cairo International Stadium in Egypt in a Group G fixture of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

Pepo Santos scored a brace and Stanley Ratifo added the other during a great first half.

Uganda Cranes’ only goal was a well-headed goal via Libya-based forward Muhammed Shaban.

Pepo lit up the game with a third-minute goal, straight from the corner kick set-piece (Olympico goal) past goalkeeper Isima Watenga to give Mozambique a commanding start.

The goal was short-lived as Shaban connected home off an inviting free-kick by Allan Okello.

Pepo restored Mozambique’s lead with a great tap-in after a well-laid ball by Gildo from the left flank was fluffed by a diving Watenga.

Uganda granted Mozambique the numerical advantage when Denis Omedi was sent off in the 37th minute for the second bookable foul on talisman Geny Catamo.

Forward Stanley Ratifo scored the third goal in a dominant opening stanza for the Black Mambas.

At the start of the second half, Ethiopian-based goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi replaced Watenga in Uganda Cranes’ goalposts.

Ten minutes into the second half, Allan Okello hit the crossbar after being set up by Elvis Bwomono.

The two sides called for further changes in a bid to ignite life on their respective sides.

Elvis Bwomono was replaced by Ronald Ssekiganda and Shaban Muhammed came off for Tanzania-based striker Steven Desse Mukwala.

Mozambique captain Renaldo Mandava had an acrobatic overhead kick over the bar inside Uganda’s goal area.

With ten minutes to play, Mozambique goalkeeper Ernani denied Uganda Cranes’ captain Khalid Aucho after a fierce shot

Elias Macamo came on for Stanley Ratifo in another Mozambique change before Okello was rested for Calvin Kabuye.

Abdu Azizi Kayondo had a free-kick well defended and inside the five added minutes, Jude Ssemugabi watched on in disbelief when his shot was blocked for a corner kick.

Mozambique is now aloft of group G with 12 points as Uganda Cranes stay on 6.

  1. Oh Uganda! All we here around is “omupira gwa Uganda gukula” but the result never change. The players make us pull out pens and papers or even calculaters in order to try and figure out whether things are gonna workout but all in vein. Headache just.
