Deo Kasozi, the out-going president of Kitara Football Club

Since July 2022, Deo Kasozi has been president of Uganda Premier League entity Kitara Football Club.

On Heroes Day, 9th June 2025, Kasozi officially announced retiring from the club presidency.

“In respect of the Kitara Football Club constitution, I have decided to retire from the presidency of Kitara Football Club,” Kasozi spoke to the media during a press conference held in Hoima city.

For three seasons, Kasozi has been president of the club, laying a firm foundation upon which the other leaders will build.

“I am heading for private business but still related to football,” he added moments after an executive committee meeting with the other leaders.

During his tenure, Kitara Football Club rallied as many spectators as possible for home and away engagements. They recorded sporting success with triumph in the Uganda Cup and also participated on the continent in the CAF Confederation Cup, under the tenure of Brian Ssenyondo as head coach.

Kitara Football Club also finished fourth in the 2023-2024 StarTimes Uganda Premier League standings with 54 points off 29 matches.

Kasozi’s approach at the club has been open-minded with full accountability.

He is a known motivator with financial incentives through bonuses and allowances that always spurred the players and other staff.

As Kasozi departs, first vice president Gilbert Nyaika takes over on an interim basis as president until fresh elections are held.

His departure has already cast a dark shadow on the club’s loyal fans, players and some administrators.

How the club swiftly recovers from Kasozi’s departure will mean a great deal heading to the primary transfer window as they beef up for the 2025-2026 football season.
