- Guinea 0-3 Uganda
Uganda Cranes secure a well-deserved 3-0 victory against Guinea in the 2024 African Nations Championship encounter at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Morley Byekwaso made several changes in the starting team, introducing Reagan Mpande, Herbert Achayi, Karim Watambala and Hillary Mukundane.
Allan Okello’s brilliance gave Guinea’s backline a tough evening right from the opening minutes throughout the opening period.
Reagan Mpande broke the deadlock with a well-guided header to place Uganda into the driving seat after 30 minutes.

It was a well-crafted goal as Okello passed to Joel Sserunjogi from the corner point and the midfielder’s delivery was smartly nodded home.
Uganda could have easily doubled its lead, but Okello and Jude Ssemugabi were not lethal enough to bury their chances.
Coming from the dressing room, Guinea stepped up their game, thus pegging Uganda on their back feet.
Okello was tripped in the area in the 58th minute and the referee waved play on before he was summoned to the VAR area.

After thorough scrutiny, Uganda were awarded a penalty and Okello calmly slotted it into the back of the net to extend Uganda’s lead.
The referee awarded Guinea a penalty halfway through the second stanza but the decision was overturned after a VAR check.
In the 90th minute, Ivan Ahimbisibwe put the icing on the cake with a delightful finish after being set up by Okello.

Uganda return to action on Monday, August 11, as they take on Niger who earlier lost to Guinea.

Congrats to the team. See the players and coaches can deliver!
I don’t even remember the last time Uganda Cranes scored three goals to nothing in a competitive game. It has been a long time.
Hopefully, the team will play loose and have fun. No pressure. Train hard, prep well and have fun on game day.
