The FEASSA games official opening ceremony will take place on Friday, 15th August 2025 at the Bukhungu international stadium where President Ruto is expected to officiate as chief guest.

The 22nd edition of the East African Secondary School Games started on Thursday, 14th August 2025 in Kakamega county in Western Kenya.

This followed the successful arrival of teams from Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Ivory Coast and hosts Kenya.

Basketball tipped off at the Police Canteen courts with action in the 5X5 and 3X3 versions.

There were mixed fortunes for Ugandan ambassadors with the female teams winning, one male side won as two other male teams succumbed to defeats.

St Noah Girls School Zana recovered from a scare having trailed in the opening three quarters to win 68-55 over Kenya’s Kaya Tiwi Secondary School.

By the end of the opening quarter, the score board was even, 18-points apiece.

The Kenyans established 36-28 lead by the break and maintained the status quo heading to the final quarter at 46-39.

St Noa Girls Zana then showed a true championship spirit with a brave gallant performance in the closing quarter to triumph the game 68-55 as the energy levels of Kaya Tiwi players diminished.

St Mary’s Kitende won the all Ugandan contest 65-51 over Nabisunsa Girls School.

Boys:

Two Ugandan schools lost and one won in their respective openers under the boys’ cluster.

Uganda’s first runners up St Cyprian High School Kyabakadde fell 49-54 to Kenya’s Lukenya Boys High School.

“The start is always challenging. We gave our best and expect to make a comeback” Malcom Omondi, team captain at St Cyprian High School Kyabakadde remarked.

The other Ugandan school, Seeta High School slipped 40-64 to Kenya’s Dr. Aggrey Secondary School.

There was also basketball action in the 3X3 version.
