Uganda Cranes dramatically qualified for the quarterfinals of the ongoing CHAN 2024 on Monday, August 18, 2025.

The mark was reached after Uganda held South Africa to a 3-3 stalemate at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

However, Hillary Mukundane will miss the crucial game that will be played on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

The defender was booked 75th minute of the clash between Uganda and South Africa.

According to the competition rules, a player who gets two yellow cards automatically misses the next game.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, Uganda Cranes head coach Morley Byekwaso emotionally revealed that they will find a suitable replacement.

“It’s true, (Hillary) Mukundane will miss our next game. He is a very important player for us and you can clearly see his input in our previous three games,” Byekwaso noted.

“However, we have a big squad and will find a suitable replacement to see that we can hold onto our positive run,” he added.

The available options are Arnold Odong and Nicholas Mwere who have played in the same position in the preparations to the tournament.

Mukundane and Torach had created a great partnership in the heart of the backline thus keeping two clean sheets in the previous three games played.
